When we say green hosting, we do not mean that somebody planted a tree once and then left it to its fate. We mean renewable power from the socket to the server, software lean enough to need less of it, and numbers we are willing to publish.
The honest version of the sales pitch
Most hosts still run on fossil fuels and some buy a token offset to put a leaf on the website. Offsets are not worthless, but they are compensation, and compensation is what you reach for after you have stopped trying to reduce. We would rather not need them.
So the order of operations here is: use less, then make sure what you do use is renewable, then — only then — talk about the surplus.

Why the software matters as much as the electricity
A page that ships five megabytes when it could ship five hundred kilobytes wastes energy in the datacenter, across the network, and in the visitor’s device — and it does it on every single view. Caching, image discipline and a short plugin list are climate measures, not just performance ones. This site is built that way on purpose: one 53-kilobyte font, an illustrated hero drawn in a few kilobytes of vector rather than a photograph, and no tracking scripts at all. We even lean toward sites that are in „dark mode“ by default, like this one is, so that your hardware uses less energy lighting your screen.

Start with one site on a fixed yearly price. Grow into managed stacks, containers with staging, VPS, or dedicated hardware. The infrastructure underneath stays the same color of green the whole way up.

Hosting powered by renewable energy and engineered to need less of it. The renewable part is the easy half; the engineering is where most „green“ hosts stop.
How are you different from the other green hosts?
Mostly by having started in 2006, before it was a marketing category, and by being independently owned — so there is no group parent whose quarterly numbers decide what we do, and there never will be. Our power is genuinely renewable rather than offset after the fact.
Is „carbon-negative“ a real claim or a stretch?
It is measurable. Our office injected 3,097 kWh into the grid in 2024 and pulled 2,592 kWh from it — a net export of 505 kWh, most of which we are not paid for. The carbon-negative page has the year-by-year figures.
