You did not start a business in order to become its systems administrator. That part can be somebody else’s job.
Most of the businesses we host are somewhere between one person and thirty: a shop, a practice, a studio, a consultancy, a small manufacturer, a cooperative. The shape of the problem is remarkably consistent. The website matters more than anyone likes to admit, the email matters more than the website, and nobody in the building wants to be the person responsible for either.
What usually goes wrong
- The site was built by somebody who has since stopped answering email.
- Mail begins landing in customers‘ spam folders, and nobody can say when it started.
- The renewal invoice arrives noticeably larger than last year’s, with no explanation attached.
- Nobody is certain where the backups are, or whether anyone has ever tried restoring one.
- Updates are either applied blindly or not at all, and both of those are a problem.
How we work instead
- Included admin time with our technical team every month, by appointment: a broken contact form, a DNS question, or something with nothing to do with hosting at all. Unused minutes roll over for a few months.
- Email on every plan, and help getting SPF, DKIM and DMARC right, because those records are what decide whether your quotes and invoices actually arrive.
- A company small enough that whoever answers has probably already seen your setup.
- Migration treated as part of onboarding rather than a separate project: the site, the DNS and the mail — including the full mail history out of every mailbox — with no downtime as the goal.
- A free Let’s Encrypt certificate on every plan, or one you bought elsewhere and would like us to install.
- Pricing you can put in a budget, and the freedom to move up or down a plan at any time, pro-rated.
- Renewable power end to end — increasingly something you get asked about rather than something you volunteer.
The sustainability question, for when you are asked it
Tenders, larger customers and your own reporting increasingly ask what your digital operations cost the planet. Hosting is one of the few places where you can give a straight answer rather than an estimate. We have been carbon-neutral since 2006 and carbon-negative since 2021, and we publish the meter readings instead of describing them — the figures are on our carbon-negative proof page, and you are welcome to quote them.
Which plan
Most single-site businesses are on Press ON!, which is one WordPress site and five mailboxes at a fixed yearly price. Businesses running a few domains, or a longer list of staff addresses, are usually on Professional. Plans and pricing has the detail, and we will talk it through with you before you pay anything. That conversation is not a sales call — it is us finding out what you actually run.
Common questions
Can you take over a site somebody else built?
Usually, yes — that is most of what a migration is. We look at what is there first, and if something genuinely needs rebuilding rather than moving, we will say so before you have paid us anything. See moving your site to us.
Do you handle the email as well as the website?
Yes, and for most businesses the email is the part that really matters. Every plan includes mailboxes, webmail in the browser and ordinary IMAP access for whichever mail program your staff prefer. We will also help you get the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records right, so your mail is not quietly filed as spam by somebody else’s server.
What is „admin time“, and what can we use it for?
It is time with our technical team, included with every plan, booked by appointment. Use it for whatever is useful: chasing a problem, planning a change, or something with no connection to hosting whatsoever. Unused minutes roll over for a few months, so they accumulate if you do not need us.
We are not a green business. Does that matter?
Not in the slightest. You do not have to share our reasons for running the company this way in order to be a customer of it. A good many of the businesses we host chose us because the support is good and the invoice does not creep, and discovered the rest of it afterward.
